About LaDonna

Thanks for visiting! I look forward to blogging about my experiences in historic preservation & genealogy. I’m so glad you chose to tag along!

Since the age of 13, I have been researching my family tree. It’s been a long journey but that lead me down the path to become a Board-Certified Genealogist in 2006 and change careers from veterinary science to Historic Preservation.

From Leafseeker Consulting

LaDonna Garner, M.A., CGSM is a historic preservationist, researcher, speaker, and volunteer focusing in the Southeastern Missouri area. She is also an instructor for the Continued Education Program at St. Louis Community College.

Board-Certified in Genealogy in 2006, Garner has been researching her family history for 30 years.

Her current focus surrounds projects regarding…
recording the historical black communities and cemeteries
client assistance in genealogical brick walls
consultations in historic landscape preservation such as cemetery preservation

Her passion for cemetery preservation was inspired by an interest in family lineage and roles as Founder & Secretary of the Mt. Zion Cemetery Board to preserve Mount Zion Cemetery in Festus, Missouri . The cemetery was established by African American settlers including her ancestors in the circa 1880s and closed in circa 1973.
